Instructions

Growing Instructions:

  • Siberian Iris plants are shipped as bare roots. They flourish when planted in rich, fertile soil with good drainage; however, they will perform in poor soil as well.
  • Soak the roots over night in luke-warm water before planting.
  • Plants should be planted after the last frost and soil is workable. Loosen the soil and dig a hole 7-12 cm (3-5") deep and make a mound of soil in the middle. Place the plant on the mound and spread out the roots with the crown (where the leaves and roots meet), 2.5 cm (1") below the soil surface. Fill in around the roots, firmly press down the soil so it is even with the surrounding ground. Make sure there are no air pockets in the soil. Water generously after planting to settle the soil around the roots.

Planting Depth: 2.5 cm (1")

Plantling Spacing: 61 cm (24")

Suggestions

Growing Suggestions:

  • Do not allow soil to completely dry out. Keep the soil consistently moist during the first year while they are establishing and do not fertilize. If plants are not receiving water from regular rain, provide your plants with 2.5 cm (1") of water per week.
  • Do not remove the foliage after flowering as the leaves gather sunlight to create food and strengthens the plant. Leaves can be removed once outdoor temperatures are cooler and leaves have turned yellow and die back. In warmer climates, the leaves may remain green throughout winter.
  • Siberian Iris will not flower the first year after planting.
  • Siberian Iris require to be divided every 3 to 5 years to keep healthy and grow well. When the clumps become too crowded, they do not flower well.
  • Once established in the 2nd year, Siberian Iris benefit from nitrogen-rich fertilizer in Spring and once again after flowering.
  • While Siberian Iris will flower in part-sun, blooms will be more plentiful in full sun.
