Reuse your seed starting trays time and time again with these pellet refills!
Place pellets in watertight tray and add warm water. Drain excess water when pellets are 2.5-3.8 cm (1-1.5 in.) tall. Plant seeds according to package instructions. Water when pellets turn light brown. To harden off plants, place outside in shade for several days, gradually increasing time spent outside each day. To transplant, dig holes deep enough to cover top of pellets. Gently firm soil around pellet and water.

"Using these pellets is cleaner and more convenient than doling out potting soil into individual cell planters and trays. Even better, there is reduced root trauma and transplant shocks to the baby plants moving out into the world later. The nets can be a hinderance to later root growth for some plants, I generally try to remove these (carefully and gently) at transplant time."

"The peat pellets work well for starting your seeds, they give them a good head start , dependant on what your growing you may need a heat mat also . You also must keep an eye on the amount of water in the trays and not let the seed trays dry out . Also once the seeds have started sprouting the tops can be either removed or left ajar to let air in . The other advantage is once the plants are a descent size and ready for transplant the whole peat pot can be transplanted without disturbing the plants. Yes I would recommend."
"I will always use Jiffy brand from Mackenzie to start my seedlings - the pellets hold up the best by staying intact while watering. The seedlings have a higher germination rate with Jiffy. I've tried other brands to my dissatification - other brands are a poor quality of soil mix. Mackenzie also has a great price deal if you buy 5 or more! Definitely worth it!!!"
