A sweet Spanish mild-flavored onion that produces 10-15 cm (4-6") globes. A very adaptable onion that grows well in short to long-day conditions. It is a good storage onion. Valencia makes excellent bunching onions when young.
Plant near beets, cabbage, carrots, swiss chard, lettuce, marigolds, strawberries, tomatoes. Onions have a protective effect against borers and cutworms. The strong aroma emitted by onions disorients and confuses these pests, making it difficult for them to locate and attack the plants.Additionally, marigolds can be beneficial to onions as well. The scent of marigolds acts as a deterrent, reducing the egg-laying activity of the onion maggot fly. This can help prevent infestations and protect the onions from damage caused by these flies.
Start onion seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost in your area. Follow the seed depth and spacing guidelines indicated below. Once all danger of frost has passed, seedlings should be hardened off before planting in their growing location. Seedlings should be transplanted according to the plant and row spacing directions below. Regularly monitor your plants and ensure that the soil remains moist , but not soggy while they establish themselves in their new environment.

"Too soon to give a full review as the seedling are just going out. Our germination rate was not great, but Mackenzie seeds was fairly quick to send another pack. I've still had quite a few seedling that didn't make it, but others are looking awesome. I chose this variety in hopes they'll store better than whatever I grew last year, so we'll see. I would love to see more specific instructions for the best way to start the seeds. . ."
