Instructions
Growing Instructions:
Start Lupine seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost in your area. As the seedcoats are hard, nick them with a sharp knife, or nail clippers, being careful not to damage the embryo inside. Soak seeds for 1-2 hours in room temperature water. Moisten a paper towel (not soaking wet), and spread seeds out in a single layer on the paper towel. Wrap a dry paper towel around the damp paper towel to help keep things moist but not too wet (which could become mouldy). Place in a plastic bag and seal. Place the bag in the refrigerator for 14 days before planting. If seedlings start to sprout in the bag in the refrigerator, remove them immediately and plant them according to normal seed starting indoors methods. Follow the seed depth and spacing guidelines indicated below. Once all danger of frost has passed, seedlings should be hardened off before planting into their growing location. Seedlings should be transplanted according to the plant spacing directions below. Pick a location sheltered from the wind and receives at least 6 hours of sun per day. Regularly monitor your plants and ensure that the soil remains moist, but not soggy while they establish themselves in their new environment.

Suggestions
Growing Suggestions:
Lupines are a legume, which means that they fix nitrogen in the soil and they enrich your soil health.
Well-draining soil is necessary as the plant does poorly in soggy soil which will cause stress to the plant and may lead to root rot. Water only when the soil is dry.
Avoid fertilizing.
Regularly removing spent flowers, known as deadheading will keep the plant tidy and may reward you with more blooms.
Choose your planting location carefully as the roots do not like to be disturbed and may not return the following year.
